Applications are currently CLOSED.

Applications will open on April 1st at 12:01 AM EST.

Character applications must be posted in journals, and linked when submitted on this page. You may apply for a maximum of two characters per application round.

Please include character name, canon, and reserved/unreserved status in the subject line of your comment.

Applications decisions are given in the order applications are received. A request for revisions must be answered within three days from the time of the request for your revisions to be considered. If your application is rejected, you may apply again for the same character next application cycle unless otherwise noted, up to a maximum of three times. If your application for a character is rejected three times, you may not apply for that character again.

To prevent a situation where some characters have been accepted and some characters are left waiting, all app results will go out together after the app round has closed, ideally within 48 hours. If it has been more than 3 days (72 hours) since the closing of the app round, feel free to contact us regarding the status of your application.

You may wish to review the Rules, FAQ, and Taken Characters pages before applying. The Reservations page is located here. Unless otherwise noted, Reserves are open from the 9th to the end of each month, and Applications are open from the 1st to the 8th of each month.

rekindleme. Unfortunately, we must reject you application as submitted at this time. Our reasons for doing so are as follows:

The first issue is with the linked history. The linked essays were very problematic; they were filled with headcanon and overall demonstrated a lack of understanding of Bakura's role in canon. Additionally, there's far too much information about Yami Bakura, (who is a separate appable entity) rather than Ryou Bakura, the character this application is for.

The second issue is with Bakura's personality as it's presented in this application. He's presented as being closer to Yuugi and his friends than he really is in canon, and many of his interests - such as table-top roleplaying games and, more relevantly, the occult - are downplayed while less relevant aspects of his personality are played up.

Taken together, we don't feel as if this application shows enough of an understanding of the character to accept him into the game at this time.

You may apply again next application cycle, beginning July 8th, or apply for another character if you so choose. You may apply for the same character up to three times in total.

I had provided 4 links for history, the essays as supplement to the two wiki pages. They were not intended to be a personal history, but a general, as I had assumed that since the history was to be linked, it wasn't intended to be a strong point of the app. If need be, I have a written up one, that only focuses on Bakura's part of the story. Would you prefer that instead?

I'm also a bit curious as to why you feel he's played as being closer when I stated that he wasn't very close to the group? And none of his interests were downplayed. Stating his likes doesn't make for talking about his personality very much, which is why I focused on what he's like, rather than things he likes.

As you stated in your app, the YGO wiki entry is "off and full of fanon," and the general wikipedia entry did not explain enough about Bakura's role to stand on its own. The members of the application team that were familiar with the canon were able to confirm this, and thus, what we had to work with were the essays you provided - which, as we've stated already, were problematic.

Though you did state that he wasn't as close to the group as he could be, the overall description of him within the application still had him presented as being closer to them than he was in canon. His likes have a lot to do with his personality and are indicative of character traits that were overlooked, which is why it was brought up. As it is now, the way you glossed over what he likes and why he likes them, as well as other aspects of his personality, portray a very unbalanced version of this character that does not mesh with what we see of him in canon.

The rejection for this round is non-negotiable; revisions are asked for when the problems with the application are not so extensive. However, if you would like to re-apply, you are free to do so in the next cycle starting July 8th.
