"So, how exactly does this 'physical contact' thing work? Side effects?" | ||||
Due to the nature of this game, it is currently very important for your characters to remain in physical contact with others. This isn't simply encouraged by the NPCs (and boy, do they ever encourage it), but it is vital to the long term survival and well-being of those brought into the city! Why it is this way is still a mystery to local and guest alike, but even so much as a handshake can help keep stave off whatever's in the air around the city from causing severe illness symptoms for a while. That said, handshakes are not enough on their own and residents of Saeng Seong strongly encourage hugs and hand-holding. Failure to meet the "quota" as it were (or entering the inaccessible districts) will make your character's begin to experience something similar to an energy drain or withdrawal symptoms. As with any illness, these symptoms progress in stages.
If your character gets to a total of twenty-eight days without physical contact, contact the moderators. Now that we have talked over the worst-case scenario, you're likely wondering how to avoid this. The only known answer is, of course, significant physical contact. What counts as "significant"? Well, the rule of thumb is that your character will need the equivalent of "one thirty-second hug per day." The longer it is, the better, and the more contact means it will be more effective. This means that a five-second hug is more effective than a five-second handshake. We leave it up to your own discretion as to how your character reaches this quota (and how much of it is handwaved or played out). So long as the amount averages out to the rough equivalent of giving someone a hug for thirty seconds each day or more, and your character gets some sort of physical contact at least once a week, they will be okay and not have to worry about pink elephants being in their room all of a sudden. There may even be some benefits in going above and beyond the required amount! Additionally, if your character is getting some contact with others, but not quite enough, they can delay the onset and progression of their withdrawal symptoms. For example: Say Tim averages three five-second hugs per day. This means that Tim will begin to lose control of his telekenetic abilities in two week instead of one, and if this pattern continues, it will be an average of ten days per progressively-worse stages. Medicines from the hospital can help lessen the severity, but it's akin to putting a bandaid on a crack in a dam: medicines will eventually fail if they are the only treatment your character seeks. That being said, CONTACT WITH NPCS DOES NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT. All physical contact quotas must be fulfilled with other player characters. Below is a list of examples that have been proven effective methods, though are definitely not all of them:
NOTE:All effects of physical contact bypass clothing. I.E. a handshake with someone wearing gloves still counts. The contact does not need to be skin-on-skin. Keep in mind that just because you hug someone for seven minutes straight that this will not heal them immediately. This is not the Pokemon Center; the human body takes time to heal. It can lessen, but they would not completely feel like themselves again until the next day at best. |
